About Us

Tim and Karen Sandifer run Brazos Valley Stump Grinding and Tree Service. We started in 2014 with one truck and a small crew. Most of our work still comes from customers telling their neighbors about us.

Working one region teaches you the trees in it. Pecan drops heavy limbs without much warning. Cedar elm splits at tight forks. Post oak dies slowly and holds its shape for a year or two after it is gone, which is why so many dead oaks stand until a storm brings them down. An arborist inspection tells you which of those you have before the storm does.

We tell you what your tree actually needs. Sometimes that means a trim instead of a removal, and we will say so even though it is the smaller job.

About Us - Brazos Valley Stump Grinding and Tree Service

Our Services

Stump grinding removes a stump below ground level. That clears the space for mowing, planting, or building on. A stump left in place attracts insects and takes years to rot down in this climate.

Tree trimming removes branches that are dead, damaged, or too close to something. That includes limbs over a roof, near power lines, or rubbing against each other inside the canopy. Trimming the right branches keeps the tree healthy. Trimming the wrong ones weakens it.

Tree planting starts with picking a species that suits your soil and your space. Not every tree handles Brazos Valley heat and clay. We help you choose, then plant it at the right depth so the roots establish properly.

Tree removal takes down a tree that is dead, dying, or unsafe where it stands. We rig and cut it in sections when it is close to a house, and haul away all the wood when we are done. We answer storm calls.

An arborist inspection identifies problems before they become emergencies. That covers disease, root damage, weak unions, and trees leaning more than they should. Some of what matters most is not visible from the ground.

Our Work Process

01.

Inspection & Quote

We look at the tree, not a photo of it. Species, condition, how it leans, how much dead wood is in it, and what sits underneath. Access matters too, because a tree a truck can reach costs less to take down than one in a fenced back yard. You get a fixed price before anything else happens.

02.

Clearing the drop zone

Before a saw starts, we work out where each section is going to land and clear it. Vehicles get moved, furniture and pots get shifted, and beds or fences that cannot be moved get protected. Most property damage in this trade happens because nobody planned this step.

03.

Rigging and cutting

A tree with open space around it can come down in one piece. A tree over a roof, a fence, or a driveway comes down in sections, roped and lowered rather than dropped. Which method we use depends on what is underneath, and we tell you which one your tree needs before the day.

04.

Chipping, hauling, and final check

Brush goes through the chipper, logs get cut and loaded, and the ground gets raked. Then one of us walks the site with you before the crew leaves, because that is when anything missed gets fixed.

Why Choose Us

Insured, with proof on request

We carry insurance on every job. Ask to see the certificate before work starts, and we will send it. An uninsured crew leaves you liable for damage to your own property.

Google reviews from local customers

Work across Bryan and College Station since 2014, reviewed publicly by the people we did it for. You can read all of them.

An arborist looks at the tree first

Not every tree needs to come down. We check the tree before quoting, and if a trim solves the problem we will tell you that instead.

Fixed price before we start

You get the price in writing after we have seen the job. It does not change once the crew arrives.

Everything hauled away

Brush gets chipped, logs get cut and removed, chips get raked up. If you want the wood left for firewood, say so and we will cut it to length and stack it.

Best quote hands down out of three other vendors! When I asked them to do additional work that was not agreed upon beforehand and they said, "No problem", informed me of the additional cost, ensured I was comfortable with that, and quickly got it accomplished. They were professional and had awesome customer service. They made sure I was happy with the results before leaving. They tidied everything up and hauled everything away. They were quick and efficient and the whole crew was really great. I would highly recommend them again and will be using them in the future. Sunita

Called BVSGTS to remove a large post oak that had died. Tree was located relatively close to the house, so needed someone who knew what they were doing for the removal. Tim's team did a great job taking down the tree and cleaning up afterward. They even cut up the bigger pieces for me to split into firewood when it gets cooler. I got several bids on the job and Brazos Valley Stump Grinding and Tree Service were very reasonable. They communicated well and let me know when to expect the crew. Very pleased.

Quoted a price and then said crews would walk if we didn't pay over triple.

FAQs

Yes. We carry insurance on every job we do, and we will send you the certificate before work starts if you ask. That covers accidental damage to your property while the crew is working. Ask any tree service for proof of insurance before they touch your trees. A crew without it leaves you paying for their mistakes.

Stump grinding is a separate service that can be added to a removal. Most customers add it, because a removal without stump grinding leaves a stump behind. You can also book grinding on its own for a stump left by someone else years ago.

Cost depends on the size of the tree, the job, and how hard the tree is to reach. A large tree next to a house costs more than the same tree in an open field, because it has to come down in roped sections instead of one piece. We give you a fixed price after looking at the job in person.

Yes. We take storm calls when a tree comes down or a limb is left hanging. Emergency work starts with checking what the tree is resting on and whether any power lines are involved. If a line is involved, the utility company has to clear it before anyone cuts.

No, but be there for the first visit and the last ten minutes. The first visit is when the price and the scope get agreed. The final walk-through is when anything missed gets fixed, and that is much easier to do while the crew and the chipper are still on site.
